Current Research Projects:

Our currently funded research projects include:

  • Molecular and Cellular Mechanism of Invasion/Replication of Intracellular Bacteria
  • Signal Transduction Altered by Intracellular Bacteria
  • Signal Transduction induced by Intracellular Bacteria upon interaction with host cells
  • Role of Cytokines and Antibodies in Ehrlichial Diseases.
  • Molecular and Antigenic Characterization of Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, and Neorickettsia spp.
  • Ehrlichial diseases; Potomac horse fever, canine ehrlichiosis, human monocytic ehrlichiosis, human granulocytic ehrlichiosis. Diagnosis: PCR, dot blot, Western blot, IFA, ELISA, isolation of ehrlichiosis, cloning ehrlichial major antigens.
  • Cloning of major outer membrane proteins of ehrlichiae and examining the gene expression in different hosts (vertebrate and non-vertebrate).
  • Comparison of 3 Human Ehrlichiosis Agent Genome Sequences: 1) Determination of the complete nucleotide sequence of Ehrlichia chaffeensis, Anaplasma phagocyophila, and  Neorickettisa sennetsu; 2) Comparison of these three sequences and DNA microarray analysis.
