| July 7, 2000 | We just came back from China three days ago. Time past so fast. One month's vacation has gone before we realized it, and we only have some time to stay with families. Shanghai does change a lot, especially for Pudong, and the new airport in Pudong. However, I can't see any significant development in other small towns, even in some cities. The rate of unemployment keeps high, yet wages keep low. Although the living condition may not be good enough there, I still like the life in China. Much easier life, lots of delicious food, and many fun places to go. |
| June 3 to July 3, 2000 | We will go back to China this month. This site may not be updated during this period. Welcome back after Independence Day, and I will bring you pictures about Shanghai and China (if I have time). Thanks for your visiting, and good luck to every one! |

I just went back from Los Angeles. This is
really a wonderful city for living. Temperature here is always between 60s
and 80s, no matter summer or winter. One guy said that he even cannot
remember the feeling of sweat. Sound unbelievable? Unfortunately, the area around our hotel or the entire downtown area is bad. It's inside Korean Town, where the notorious riot happens in 1993. With sticky and dirty road, lots of graffiti on wall, the area around convention center is really not a pleasant place. In spite of these areas, most part of LA is beautiful. East part of the city and the west coast all looks very beautiful. On the way to Beckman laboratory, the talkative driver told me many things about LA. I am not sure about the authenticity of his words, but sounds interesting. He said more than half of residents are oriental or Hispanic descent. LA has largest Chinatown and Little Tokyo in United States, and many foods there are cheap and delicious. Just like some kind of Japanese noodle (Ramen?), recommended by a Japanese PostDoc. |
| May 21 - 25, 2000 | ASM (American Society of Microbiology) meeting in Los Angeles, and my travel is covered by ASM travel award. LA must be a fun place in May. |
