First Winter Snow Storm

Winter Snow Storm
Seem like that the effects of global warming is real, as we have temperature above the average for more than a month. The nice and warm winter comes to an end since last week, and Sunday January 21st saw the first real snowfall for Columbus. While we're worring about the messy roads and cleaning up the snows on the driveway, our two kids were excited about playing in the snow. Indeed, Jan 21st was Eric and Rick's first day in Chinese School. They're quite excited to attend the school actually, since they will meet their friends there. As they want to stay with each other, we put them in the same class (first grade). Apparently Rick is too young for this grade, but the good things are they can help each other and learn together. Anyway, we don't expect them to be excellent, but at least be able to pronounce and read fluently.

China Trip (October 2006)

Shanghai Bund

It has been more than 6 years since we last went back to China in summer 2000, when the air travel is much easier and our two boys are not out yet. Various things keep us from going back since then. Quite excited while the airplane finally landed at Shanghai Pudong Airport, although we're somehow unsure how the two kids would feel and behave in a whole new environment to them. To our surprise, Eric and Rick did very well most of the time.
China has developed a lot again, mostly in improving infrastructures like constructing new roads, highways, subways, and railroads. And to my knowledge, people have better lives too. All the classmates have great positions and live a decent lives. We felt much outdated to the modern lifestyles in China big cities. Nevertheless, we got hundreds of pictures and detailed descriptions are in some subalbums. Enjoy!

A Day Out with Thomas

 Day Out with Thomas

Trains are Eric and Rick's favorite toys. Thomas the tank engine series are among one of them. By chance, we know Thomas comes to Cleveland. Both Eric and Rick get so excited! We travelled for more than one hour to the train ride, and found out a huge crowd there, all families with kids. The ride is fun but way too short. Not surprising, they asked for another ride next time it comes!

A Trip to Washington DC

DC Trip
Tang had an AACR meeting in Washington, DC, so our whole family went there together, just for some sightseeing. It's beautiful spring time in DC, and cherry flowers are blossoming, especially around the Tidal Basin near the Nathional Mall. Unfortunately, my sons enjoyed neither the sightseeing, nor the museums. Their sole interest is to ride the train. We bought the daily subway pass, and their only goal is to ride on the subway, all day long if possible, preferably running above the ground. Nevertheless, they do like running in the National Zoo (free admission!).

Half Day at the Columbus Zoo - March 2006 Photos

Columbus Zoo
Columbus Zoo is one of my sons' favorite hangout places (Highbank park is another one). Not for the animals, but for various rides - a small train ride, the merry-go-round, boat ride, and the fun playground. We might see the fishes, or watch the manatee swimming inside the room when it's cold, but their interests are definetely not in here. Usually we go there in the morning, and come back around 1-2 pm, just right for an afternoon nap.

February 2006 Photos - Still Winter Here

Funny Faces
The sun hangs longer on the sky than before, but the temperature remains very chilly in February. We even got -14C two weeks ago. Fortunately, the blizzard blankened northeast US missed Ohio.
Now you may start to notice that train is not the only toy for my sons. Right, they explore new things, such as Dora! It is amazing that how suddenly they fall in love with Dora the explorer, within one week!

Two is better than one - The Brotherhood!

It's sure that two boys make more trouble than one. Actually, our major task is to keep these two energized guys from fighting. You cannot imagine that almost everything can be their causes of fight: toys, books, which video to be played, or even who should be dressed first! Of course, they mostly fight for their favorite train toys. They rarely fight for snacks, probably we always have more than enough for them (unlike our age of childhood, everything is in shortage).
Regardless of their fight, they do think of each other and love each other very much. Here are few examples. Last Thursday, there is a party in Eric's classroom to celebrate two kids' birthday, and their parents brought some party stuffs printed with Dora and Boots (their interests have diverted slightly to Dora's Explorer series recently). Eric took one set, then asked his teacher if he can get another one for his brother Rick. Before his teacher agreed, he took another set and gave them to me for Rick. Yesterday, Rick brought back a bag of M&M candy from school. When we're back at home, he took out two dishes from the dish washer and shared the candies with Eric. It's so sweet to watch them sharing things!
